National Bike to Work Breakfast

As part of Elm City Cycling’s Bike to Work Day breakfast on Friday, May 19, cyclists will be celebrating the inauguration of the city’s first protected bike lane, on Long Wharf.

The breakfast is part of Bike Month New Haven. Cyclists and pedestrians are welcome to meet in front of City Hall, 165 Church Street, between 7:30-9:30 a.m. for a free breakfast, and to chat about best routes to work and school and pick up free useful items like leg straps, bike maps and ECC’s latest 10-page Bike Plan.

Around 9 a.m., a group will ride to Long Wharf to inaugurate the new protected bike lane.

“It’s one of the bike amenities most effective in getting the biggest group of potential cyclists to take to the road,” said Elm City Cycling board member Rob Rocke.

Mayor Toni Harp and Department of Transportation Director Doug Hausladen have been invited to the event.
